Day 3 - North Shore

North Shore Beach
One of the many beaches along the North Shore.

Fallen Tree
Last week the island where hammered by 3 days of heavy storms.  This was evident by fallen trees, mud puddles and sand drifts.  According to the locals, wind did the most damage.

Surf's Up
North Shore is famous as a surfing destination.  The biggest waves accord in winter.

Surfers
This day there were only a few surfers out in the afternoon. Apparently the biggest waves this time of year are in the morning and at night.

Tourist
The tourist come to take pictures of the surfers. Unfortunately, their point and shoot will not capture the pictures above with the surfers 200 yards off shore.

Shops
Given that North Shore is a tourist destination, the road has many shops for souvenirs. This was one of the shops we stopped at.

Shave Ice and Fruit
Shave ice is big. It's ice cubes which are literally shaved. Than artificial coloring and favors are added. To make it look like it's natural, many of the shave ice stands put some fresh fruit out front.

Shrimp Truck
Shrimp Trucks are literally trucks which sell shrimp out of them. You can buy them both cooked and raw. In our case we got some shrimp cooked in butter and spices with rice. It made for an interesting afternoon snack. They don't seem to run the cleanest operation.
